Carey was a top model in fashion who measured at almost 5'10" was well-liked by American fashion designers such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. In 1979 in 1979, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists elected her father Scientist of the Year. The father of Carey was a geologist and traveled the globe as a part of his profession. The model began modeling for a part-time basis during her time attending the University of Colorado and caught the eye of a rep for the Ford model Agency in New York. She moved to France in the year 1980, and lived briefly in Paris as well as Bordeaux before deciding to return in New York to continue with her studies at the college level and her modeling career. Soon, she was being featured on the cover of Vogue, Glamour, etc. In between modeling assignments she was enrolled in literature full time at New York University. In New York she began to pursue acting. She made her acting debut by playing a minor part in the film 'Club Paradise which aired in 1986 alongside Robin Williams. She is a rock climber ski, windsurfing, and skiing.
